Selwyn took Jacob and Jordan on the Trek for Kids ride this year.  This is the first big, organized ride that the boys have done and both Jacob and Jordan were super excited to go.

Everyone had a great time although the theme for Jordan's morning was "triumph over adversity".  Early in the ride, Selwyn swerved to get onto the bike path and took the initial turn a bit too fast.  This sent Jordan flying out of his seat.  As he fell, his shirt got caught on the pedals dragging him behind the bike.  By the time everyone stopped, Jordan had a huge case of road rash right across his ribs-- ouch!  It's amazing he didn't break a bone, and after about 20 minutes of rest he was back on he saddle to complete the ride!  Wow!

Unbelievably, Jordan still thought that the ride was the coolest thing ever.  He and Jacob both want to do it again next year.  In fact, they both want to go on another ride soon!

The event overall was just fantastic.  As a participant in a first time event, I have to say I didn't see a single technical problem.  Registration went well, food was plentiful, and the giveaways donated were more than anyone would expect.

April and Maya came to cheer us on at the finish line.  Since we ended up being a bit late because of the crash, they spent some time walking around the event.  As they did this, they thought they would be nice and pick up one piece of trash.  The volunteer coordinator saw them do this and shuffled them over to get their orange "volunteer" t-shirts and food wristbands before they started their volunteer work.  She mistook April and Maya for some of her volunteers.  They followed the lady, got their free t-shirts, and ended up picking up trash across half of the event site!
